Why Sanibel Candles Are Made in Fort Myers

Why Sanibel Candles Are Made in Fort Myers

The Sanibel Candle Company is the first of its kind in Southwest Florida, offering a unique experience that lets you take home the scents of the islands. Our fragrances will transport you back to the beauty of this special place, no matter where you are in the world. We are excited to share these one-of-a-kind memories with you and hope they bring back all the wonderful moments from your time spent here.

So why are we called Sanibel Candle Company when we are located in Ft. Myers?

In May of 2022, we began the process of building out and renovating the existing store, Sand Castle Gifts and Gourmet in hopes of opening a sister store, Sanibel Candle Company on Sanibel Island. Sand Castle Gifts and Gourmet was getting ready to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary and then came Hurricane Ian in September 2022.

Sanibel Island and Captiva Island, Ft. Myers Beach and much of Southwest Florida were devastated by the hurricane. Rebuilding and restoration began just days after Ian made landfall. Shortly after it made its way through the area the community came together in support of one another as the cleanup and process to restore power to the island was in full swing.

In January of 2023, we were in search for a new home. We, like many of the businesses on Sanibel Island and Captiva Island, were displaced after hurricane Ian devastated the area.

We, like many of you, miss the island that we once called home for our shops. The people, the smells, the beauty that made it a top travel destination in Florida. We hope that as the island comes alive once again, that we are able to help in the restoration and rebuilding of the island back to the time before the hurricane, and help the island we all loved get back to what it used to be.

So until the time comes when the islands have returned to the beautiful places they once were, we will continue to bring you the scents and smells from our favorite memories, keeping the essence of these islands alive.
